Reading the city's books from your home

As you might guess, the slowdown in the economy seems to be having an effect on tourism in Sandusky.

City commissioner Craig Stahl is the commission's liaison to the city's audit finance committee. As Stahl pointed out at Monday's city commission meeting, income taxes are up 3 percent so far this year, but admissions taxes from Cedar Point are down 11 percent and hotel/motel taxes are down 10 percent. Still, the last current cash balance was healthy: $2,063,764, Stahl noted.

The finance committee's meetings, usually held on a Friday late in the month, are open to the public; meeting agendas and meeting minutes are here.

But you can see the numbers Stahl talked about by looking here and here. To read the PDF reports, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader (the city's Web page has a handy download link) or another PDF reader.
