Have you found Jesus?

Jason Werling • Mar 23, 2010 at 6:27 PM

Last time there was a prominent statue missing from Washington Park it turned out the Boy with the Boot was just getting a new paint job. This time instead of putting on a new coat of paint, Rick Choquette is trying to come up with a reward to offer for the missing baby Jesus.

The baby Jesus was stolen from the manger at the nativity scene near the Masonic mound in Washington Park. Rick showed me the measures that were used to keep the statue attached to the manger and from seeing that I can tell you that someone really wanted baby Jesus in their life.

The statue, along with the statues of Mary, Joseph and an angel were recently repainted and bolted to the nativity. The manger was bolted to the nativity as well and baby Jesus was attached to the manger with screws and liquid nails. Someone really had to pry him off of there.

I googled stolen baby Jesus and the search pulled up all kinds of similar stories, here are a couple...

Orlando, FL

Toledo, OH

One community decided to use GPS with their nativity, the story is here.

To whoever decided to steal the statue, just know that a lot of work goes into the displays in Washington Park and your stunt is not original.
