Everyone is still trying to digest the economic stimulus bill Congress just passed and the Obama Administration’s proposal on the housing crisis. Here are a few followups:
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, Erie County’s representative in the U.S. House, announced in Sandusky last week that she would host a local meeting to advise officials on how to apply for stimulus program grants.
The office will probably host a series of meetings instead, targeted to different groups, said Steve Fought, Kaptur’s spokesman.
For example, one meeting will be about how emergency responders can seek money. Meeting dates will be announced soon, he said.
Kaptur mentioned in last week’s speech to the Erie County Democratic Women that she hopes money in the stimulus package for high-speed rail would be used for a high-speed train linking Toledo, Sandusky and Cleveland. The New York Times ran an interesting article on the high-speed train funding, and an accompanying map does show the route Kaptur mentioned. The article suggests that a California train is the project that’s further along, however.
Kaptur has a guide to the stimulus bill on her Web site.
