SMCC hires Becky Babione as girls basketball coach

The coaching carousel in girls basketball has stopped spinning, and the Sandusky Bay Conference will welcome two female head coaches after SMCC hired Becky Babione to fill its vacancy.
Coming into a Sandusky Bay Conference that has sent three different teams to the state semifinals in the last six years, Babione said she’ll blend what previous coach Dave Lozier did with her own wrinkles.
The SMCC post is her first position as a head coach. The Panthers were one of four girls basketball programs to hire a new coach this offseason. Edison, Norwalk and St. Paul were the others.
The last female coach in the league before Babione and Edison's Tracey Moyer, who was hired recently, was Amanda Sheppard Wolf. She coached at Huron for two seasons (2005-06 and 2006-07).
