ONTARIO — Ally Graham had a big night for Willard in its 69-48 win over Galion Tuesday during a Division II sectional tournament girls’ basketball game at Ontario High School.
The junior poured in 26 points, including four threes in the Lady Flashes win.
Willard (13-8) is scheduled to play another NOL foe — Shelby — at 6:15 p.m. Saturday for a sectional crown. The Lady Flashes led 5-4 early on, but Graham hit a field to start an 11-0 run.
Willard led 21-10 after the first quarter.
“We worked a lot on stressing a fast start because both games during the regular season against Galion were close,’’ Lady Flashes coach Jon Dawson said. “It was important to be aggressive from the beginning and we were.’’
Graham converted a pair of triples and a two in the opening quarter.
“We wanted to get Graham open on the wing and did a good job of doing that,’’ Dawson said.
Alyssa Opatken posted 10 points and Elizabeth Fried added 10 for Willard, which shot 28-of-57 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line.
The Lady Flashes had 27 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end. Brennyn Lillo pulled down six boards, while Graham, Laura Danhoff and Marie Thornton contributed four apiece. Willard also committed 23 turnovers.
Graham was pleased with the win.
“This was a great team effort,’’ she said. “They just did a good job of getting me the ball when I was open. We had to come in with confidence. This was a great win for the seniors. It’s the first time they are playing for a sectional title. It’s something we wanted for them.’
Vanessa Chatman led Galion with 24 points. She corralled 10 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the season.
The Lady Tigers shot 16-of-47 from the field and 16-of-22 from the charity stripe with 38 rebounds.
