Not every game will be as easy as Sandusky American Legion Post 83's impressive 29-2 win over Willard on Tuesday to open the 5th district tournament in Tiffin.

Post 83 found that out Thursday as it plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and hung on to preserve a 5-4 win over Avon Lake to advance to the semifinals of the winner's bracket, where a familiar opponent awaits.

Post 83 (29-7) will take on Fremont (22-8) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the third meeting between the two programs this summer. Between the two teams' rosters, 28 players are from area schools.

Post 83 trailed 3-1 on Thursday in the middle of the third inning, as a three-error inning allowed Avon Lake to score three runs, two unearned. After two quick outs finished the inning, however, Post 83 came back with a critical answer.

Cory Brown (Port Clinton 2010) reached on an infield single, and came around to score on an RBI triple by Trey Keegan (Sandusky) driven to deep right-centerfield. With Keegan on third, Nick Butler (Huron) quickly fell behind in the count 0-2.

Butler responded, however, by lifting a ball down the left field line that stayed fair for an RBI double to tie the game at 3-3. Considering Post 83 had been upset by Avon Lake a year ago in the opening game of the districts, responding to an early deficit was a big confidence boost.
