Fravel unveils slider in Post 83's win over Findlay

It was time for Robert Fravel to learn something new.

"I told him after his last start I'd never pitch him again with the junk he has," said Sandusky American Legion Post 83 associate head coach Mike Shepherd. "We went and had a bullpen and worked on a slider and throwing the curveball faster in terms of better arm speed, and he came out and showed it."

Throwing a slider for the first time, Fravel struck out six with no walks while allowing one run on five hits five innings of work in Tuesday's 13-2 win over Findlay Post 3 at Perkins High School.

Fravel (Port Clinton) improved to 6-0 on the mound for Post 83 (18-4), accounting for one-third of the team's wins.

"Robert has done what he has all summer," Shepherd said. "He threw his off-speed junk exceptional -- better than he has all year. He fixed it today.

"He threw well and the defense played well behind him. That's the difference in the game: Walks and defense. If he pitches like that, he could be our No. 1 pitcher."

Offensively, Post 83 slugged out 13 hits to bounce back from a sub-par day at the plate in a 8-2 loss at Ashland Monday night.

Logan Shullick (Norwalk) continued his torrid pace, finishing 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Nick Butler (Huron) also continues to swing a hot bat, adding an RBI single and a double.
