PLYMOUTH — South Central had to wait an extra couple of days to play its Division IV sectional tournament baseball game against Monroeville.
But it was worth the wait for the Trojans, who blanked the Eagles 10-0 Monday at Plymouth.
South Central is scheduled to play Seneca East at 5 p.m. Thursday at 5 p.m. with a district trip on the line.
The teams just played Thursday, with the Tigers gaining a 10-9 win.
Leading 5-0 against Monroeville, South Central tacked on five more runs in the sixth inning.
Taylor Wilhelm and Nate Porter led the way offensively with three hits each. Wilhelm and Porter both slugged a double. Kurt Shepherd posted two hits, while Nick Kirk, Paul Priddy, Von Buhrman and Eddy Garner added one hit apiece. Buhrman smashed a solo home run in the third.
Wilhelm, who also hit a double, had two RBI.
Cody Fishbaugh and Porter both tallied two runs. “We were 12-of-28 at the plate,’’ Trojans coach Darren Hunt said. “The kids hit the ball well. We stole seven bases. We tried to put pressure on them and when we had to make the plays, the kids did. We played all three phases well.’’
South Central coach Darren Hunt used three pitchers. Priddy worked the first two innings. He struck out four. “We used three guys,’’ Hunt said. “We wanted to get Paul Priddy some work in.’’
Jordan Risner went three innings for the victory. He gave up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Porter pitched an inning and allowed a hit. Cory Long, Ben Bercheck and Andrew Higgins notched the Monroeville hits. Long had a double.
