GALION — The Norwalk baseball team has started the season on the road with five straight away from NHS.
The Truckers improved to 4-1 (1-0 in the Northern Ohio League) after Tuesday’s 8-0 win over Galion.
Johnie Wilcox fired a four-hitter for Norwalk. He walked one and fanned six in improving to 1-0 on the season.
“An outstanding pitching performance by Johnie Wilcox,’’ Truckers coach Wes Douglas said. “He set the tone and we played good defense.’’
Leading 1-0, the Truckers tallied three runs in the top of the third inning.
Dustin Lieber went 4-of-4 with two RBI.
Logan Shullick and Isaac Perry both notched a single, double, RBI and scored two runs.
Evan Bader and Wilcox both collected two hits with Wilcox driving in a pair.
Cam Wrabel and Collin Souter chipped in with a hit apiece.
“We scored four of our runs with two outs,’’ Douglas said. “We’re building a little momentum and hope to carry it over the rest of the week.’’
The home opener scheduled for Monday was postponed because of inclement weather.
The Truckers are slated to play St. Paul today at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon.
Norwalk is scheduled to host Willard Friday and Huron Saturday in a doubleheader.
