Kicking off its 25th season, Caryl Crane Children's Theatre presents “Children's Letters to God.” Based on a book and featured on the Oprah Winfrey show, this fun, contemporary musical showcases actual letters to God compiled from young people from all over the world.

The questions posed to the Almighty are about dealing with life in general. They range from the simplistic, such as “God, why do my feet stink?” to the quirky: “If turtles aren't in their shells, are they considered homeless or naked?”

“Children's Letters to God” follows a school year, covering some hard-hitting topics as well — parents divorcing, friends moving away and the death of a pet, to name a few. “It's all about humanity and celebrating life,” said Director Brian Marshall.

Many of the kids on the newly-minted teen board of Caryl Crane Children's Theatre had never heard of “Children's Letters to God.” Paige Graham, treasurer of the board, said, “Once I read it, I loved it! (It's) probably my favorite play that I've been in so far.”

“I never heard of 'Children's Letters to God' but I'm always up for new things,” said 13-year-old Brandon Fries, who plays Theo. He added, “(There’s) great music. Kids and adults can relate to it. It's a funny show, (and) there is a happy ending.”

Marshall has cast the show with two casts of 10 children. “Each kid is featured,” said Marshall.

“The music is challenging and I think it's helping us all to grow,” says Kelsea Freeman, who has been a part of Caryl Crane Children's Theatre for seven years and is also on the teen board.

Show dates are Feb. 25 and 26, March 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and March 6 at 2:30 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling 419-433-5560 ext. 20747.  Performances are at the McBride Auditorium, BGSU Firelands, 1 University Dr., Huron.
