The Ritz Players of Tiffin will be in the middle of a desert somewhere between California, Las Vegas and nowhere as they perform “Wally’s Café,” a comedy by Ron Clark and Sam Bobrick.

Wally and Louise, a couple from New Jersey, leave the Garden State to open a diner in the desert in 1940. Wally’s Café is not exactly on the main road to anywhere, although Wally has been reassured many, many times that a highway will be coming through — and he’s certain that the diner will be a huge success.

Louise, however, is more than pessimistic about the highway and the supposed success it will bring.

Occasionally, though, there is a customer. When Janet— a blonde hitchhiker on her way to Hollywood to become a star — enters the diner, all of their lives are altered. Soon, one simple overnight stay has turned into eighteen years for Janet.

Fast-forward to 1981 and the second act, where all questions will be answered. Janet returns in a limousine — but what does that mean? Did she finally become a Hollywood movie star? Why has she returned? Is Wally’s Café finally a success? Did the highway come through? Poignant and funny, this comedy champions the optimism and steadfastness of the human spirit and the desire to obtain one’s dreams.

“Wally’s Café” will be playing Feb. 18, 19, 26 and 27 at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St., Tiffin. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased by calling 419-448-8544 or 800-586-1382. General admission is $11.
