Where are your unbiased witnesses who are not your friends.  I saw the event from the sidelines and when people are jumping on cops backs which i did see when he was trying to arrest someone yes then they are justified in using pepper spray.

I believed SPD did a fine job in handling the situation and this is from a person on the sidelines who was not involved.  The people who did get arrested deserved it for being out of control.  If people don't act dumb they won't get arrested, point and case.

get it Right,   If I understand you "writing style" why would an 17 year old juvenile, 5 months pregnant put herself in this type of situation.  If you indeed had missed the Jet Express and was allowed on the Goodtime I, were you asked for an ID which is the policy of this boat for this particular cruise?  Why would you even be on Kellys Island that late on a Friday night, in your condition?  None of your friends took any video from cell phones that would support your accusations?          

I guess my questions comes from the point of view of a parent who does not understand this young lady and her attitude.

I didn't mean all these extra people are congregating on the pier,but that people are milling about downtown. Sorry about the time. I was wrong about that but the same situation is in play. How are police supposed to know who is a threat to others, they could be carrying a weapon who knows, or if these few people were just mouthing off to each other and maybe some shoving took place.  I'm not saying this was a major riot, nor do I think patrons of the booze cruise are a bunch of drunks.All I am saying is people need to be in control of themselves and to expect consequences if they can't, especially at that time of night.

Still wondering why when everything is on video from cell phones none of these "sober" booze cruise passengers shot any video of the alleged police misconduct.  My guess is there is not cell phone video because it would show proper police action and these people in a drunken stupor.

@ Moonbeam....obviously you are not familiar with the "booze cruise" or Sandusky night life in general. Even the later of the two boats (which leaves @ 9pm) returns around 1am. If you look at the police video I believe the time is displayed. Furthermore, in my experience when the bars downtown close people generally don't just go congregate down on Jackson Street Pier.

This was an isolated incident. I have been on many a "booze cruise" where nothing went wrong. Someone earlier nailed it with "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch". This same group of people would have caused a problem wherever they went. Unfortunately thats just the type of people the police had to deal with. I do agree with you that the police were PROBABLY doing their job....but it sure would be nice to see some actual proof of that.

Does anyone else wonder why there has not been any other video from any of the accused or their friends to show their "innocence".  We see it all the time where people video from their cell phones, yet nothing from this incident from the party people, wonder why?  Could it be that if these videos exist it would convict the booze cruisers?

I agree that I would like to see what happened and if the people arrested were hurt. Even so, I think SPD were doing their job. Think about it ,its 3 AM and multiple bars downtown have shut their doors. People are all over the place and you find yourself dealing with a large crowd, most of them partying all night. Let alone, all the shootings and crap that have happened this summer are probably in the back of your mind. Don't you think you would take a hard edged approach for the safety of the people that are behaving themselves? If you don't like the treatment, then don't put yourself in that situation. And before you anti SPD posters rip me to shreds, I haven't agreed with everything they have done over the years but I think safety is their priority and they did their job.

After seeing the video, I think there isn't alot to be said. The video doesn't show to much of anything. Yes you hear voices and the yelling, but it would be interesting to see some other vidoes of that night. My question is why is Orzech handling the internal investigation shouldn't that be left to one of the Lt.'s or someone higher up then a Sgt.? Whould be interesting to see what happens now that Chief Lang is Chief, a fresh set of eyes, that has delt with drunken fights on PIB before. Sounds like a joke to me that Orzech investigated this same officer and only suspended him from holiday pay. Isn't it assault when you hit someone This cop sounds like a cop that was made fun of as a kid then became a cop to hide behind the badge. Maybe some training  for the "big city" cops is needed.

You hear that an officer tells the responding units to slow down and never asked them to step it back up. You would have thought if a "big riot" was going down that would have been requested. Like I said it would be interesting to see more of the footage, and not just the part that shows SPD at fault. Hopefully Chief Lang will come in a clean house with SPD, and turn the department around to a much more respectable PD in Erie County.

In reply to SAM and Bored,  The Friday night party cruise is intended to be an adult 21 and over event, not a family cruise. Day time cruises and week night harbor cruises are more suited for that. No self respecting parent would take their children on a party cruise, as I have said the lower deck is more suited to those who wish not to be in the heart of the party action. It is unfortunate that some inexperienced and a few experienced who should know better get caught up in the moment and tend to drink more than they can handle, it happens but most of the drinking and mass shooter shots take place on the Island. I would argue the point of over half the people onboard being "blitzed" given no proof of this statistic.

No, I do not have a financial investment in this company. Although, I did entertain the thought of buying it when it was for sale a few years ago. The current ownership are far more experienced and capable. I have enjoyed a very successful life both personally and professionally, I work hard and play hard but always respect others.

As to the bowling alleys being the Las Vegas of Ohio........another case of poor reading comprehension, I never said the church mentioned was in the state of Ohio. And you can bet a lot of cash has traded hands in your bowling alleys over the many years, just ask any of the well known bowlers.

I'm willing to bet alot of women scream "I'm pregnant", while resisting arrest.  I also believe that many of them are actually pregnant.  It would be nice if the police would utilize their department issued crystal balls, so if a pregnant woman decided to resist arrest, they would already know she was pregnant, and they could then decide not to arrest her, and let her continue to cause problems or run away. 

You know, this girl is pretty tough, too.  She should get a break for simply being a bada$$.  She was apparently able to take a flashlight, to the face, and come out of it saying only, "ow, you hit me in the face", rather than falling to the ground unconscious, or having the facial bones shattered, like what would happen to most people if they were to be hit in the face with one of those flashlights.  She's like a female Wolverine.  We should get ahold of Stan Lee to have this girl appear on his new TV show, on the History Channel.

looking around, enough already we disagree, we both have own opinion on the emphasise on booze on the Friday night cruises.  Yes I was on one last year, the vast majority of people on the return cruise were blitzed and they did slow the engines just inside the bay for last call which lasted 10-15 minutes.  I was on a Tuesday night cruise, same boat this summer and it was a totally different crowd, many families and no apparent drunks. You must either be the bartender or related to the owners of this boat, or just don't have a life. Oh, yes everyone knows that your local bowling alley are the Las Vegas of Ohio, yea right.

Everyone knows it's going to be a drunk fest. We found out the hard way. Went with a group from work. We don't drink but figured we'd go over have a nice dinner and enjoy the scenery. On the way over, it's loud and jumpin. People are getting wound to hit the bars. But on the way back over half are drunk out of their minds and don't have a clue about what's going on around them. Got to see someone from work dance w' a pole! That was fun. Thought we were at a nudey bar! WHen we got close to being back in Sandusky, they cut the engines and slowed down so they could have "last call" and sell more booze. We were ready to swim back to shore. Not a trip we'll ever take again!! Lesson learned!

Then we disagree .....I see no repeated announcements and the cash bar isn't even a top priority in their advertising. What if they had no bar onboard but said the cruise consisted of Party Animals who were welcome to visit the many establishments on the island "Bar Hop" would that somehow suggest to you a support of "over indulgence"? The key word here my friend is "over indulgence" you need to read slower and practice comprehension. I've heard them announce to remember to tip your bartenders and that's it, the DJ does this when reminding the passengers of what time the boat will leave the island. Promoting the sale of alcoholic beverages they offer on board would be their purgative and acceptable marketing, but as I've pointed out they really don't make it a priority. As a matter of fact, it is not even mentioned on their web site that they have a bar.....

As to how I get gambling from bowling and pool tables? You have led a sheltered life my friend, Bingo speaks for itself but I'd bet the wagers were much larger on the lanes and tables as I remember. And yes, they did advertise the establishment as it was open to the general public, not your typical church granted, but it was interesting, I might add it was the easiest place to get a beer before being of legal age LOL.

I went on a friday night party cruise back in July and had a blast. There was not a single problem on the boat.  Fights happen everywhere (bars, schools, sports games, stores).  People just like to point fingers and blame others instead of looking at themselves.

I respect the views of those posting here, all the posts have weight to them. However, from what it seems by the audio to me is the cops escalated the situation. I saw all these people walking away from the boat and never looking back. I would think that if there was this great big riot that people would be RUNNING away looking back, grabbing their dates/mates and taking cover, but none of this until the cops got agressive and started punching people.

I have been framed by cops in the past, I know how crooked and evil some of them can be, (SOME not all).

Google Occoquan Workhouse and see just how badly cops can become when there are more than one. It sometimes becomes a "Pack' mentality. Hopefully no one here will ever experience anything that happened at Occoquan.

Wonder what it would be like if NO POLICE came? Everyone is quick to judge the actions of an officer yet WHAT IF THEY NEVER CAME? Then it would be "failure to respond, and they did nothing" complaints. P.S. IF you are pregnant, in the best ineterest of your child, not you, your CHILD I'd recommend you stay away from events that could put you or your unborn CHILD in danger. 

I'm Glad the Police responded and did their job. Being a COP is not the same as a massotherapist or nail technician! Go SPD on this one I don't care what the out come is!

Sam, Even Cedar Point promotes it's establishments that sell alcohol, just as many establishments that offer New Years Eve party’s will. What I said was they don't promote over indulgence, they are offering beverages on board as part of their business, the boat is licensed to sell beer and liquor. No doubt it is a money maker but as you have stated it's much a personal responsibility. As to any argument that the bartender has the right to refuse, I've seen people buy drinks for five or more of their friends and carry the drinks back without the bartender ever seeing the recipient ( all on board presumably 21) The space at and near the bar is limited so often to alleviate congestion friends will take turns on the drink run.

Sam, I once knew a Catholic Church that housed eight lanes of bowling, a bar and several pool tables in the basement. It raised a lot of money for the church along with bingo. Were they promoting alcohol consumption and gambling to the point of over indulgence?

Sam, not to be picky but, I don't agree that the term "Bar Hop" or "Party Animals" is an invitation by the Goodtime management on their part to over indulge in the consumption of alcohol. These are marketing phrases to indicate a party atmosphere, most likely adult versus a family atmosphere. Surely you have  heard of  "pub crawls" and "poker runs" where participants travel from one establishment to another often for charitable purposes and often by motorized vehicle. Responsibility is always implied. Note the number of passengers arriving and leaving the boat are dropped off and picked up by cab, limo, or a volunteering friend.

Chung, I don't know if you were on the boat or just on the pier but, yes the past two weeks have been trouble free. I've even noted that the passangers seem to have formed a bond in spirit to encourage a good time. The crew seemed to recognize those boarding with a big smile and welcome back in recognition of those known to support this tradition in the spirt of fun and friendship.
