W-T Realty manager talks with apartment resident Devon Jones, 19. Jones and her fiance Dwayne Byrd, had been gone a few days when a burner left on started a fire in their home, officials said.

A young Sandusky couple came home Wednesday evening to find their apartment and some of their belongings damaged by smoke from a fire that started in the kitchen.

Devon Jones, 19, Devon's 20-year-old fiance, Dwayne Byrd and their friend, Ramon Castillo, had been away for several days and when officials called to say their Foxborough Commons apartment was on fire, said Sandy Jones, Devon's mother.

The fire appeared to have started from an oven burner left on, with a pan sitting on top, Sandusky fire Capt. Jim Green said. After breaking down the door, firefighters quickly extinguished a small blaze on the stove. The apartment was filled with heavy smoke that crept into the third-floor hallway, so they used fans to ventilate the area.

"FIANCE`"?  What is up with that?  What is the date for the wedding?  Why do they constantly use the beautiful term "fiance`" as a substitute for just plain old "shacking up"?

So who was in the house while the occupants were gone?  It certainly doesn't take 3 or 4 days for a pan to catch on fire.
