NORTH FAIRFIELD
Officials are investigating the disappearance of a North Fairfield teen last seen Sunday night at her grandmother's house in Norwalk.
Abbi Obermiller, 17, just finished her junior year at South Central High School in Greenwich. Her family says she is a straight-A student who dreams of becoming an oncologist. She participated in her school's Academic Challenge and played volleyball in past years.
Abbi is the youngest of seven children and has a close relationship with her family, her father Jim Obermiller said.
"Just a day or two before this, I got kicked out of bed because she had a nightmare and wanted to sleep in her mother's bed," he said.
She had a small group of close friends, he said, but none of them seemed to know where she might have gone.
Norwalk police Sgt. Jim Fulton said her family reported her missing at 5:54 a.m. Monday, after she spent the night in Norwalk at her grandmother's. Phone records show a call from her cell phone about an hour before that.
Fulton said detectives can place her at her grandmother's until about 1 a.m., but they're still checking phone records hoping to identify who she may have called.
"At this point we don't know where she is, but we have a few leads," he said.
Police have not issued an Amber Alert at this time.
Abbi is tall and slender, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact Norwalk police at 419-663-6780.
