Man gets salty over freshness of fries
Dec 28
2010
Fresh french fries.
That is what Perkins police say was at the heart of a Sunday night argument between a McDonald's manager and a customer.
Robert A. Quillen, 45, 500 block Pierce St., went into the fast food restaurant on Milan Road to get his wife some fries before she went to work.
Police said Quillen became upset when the employee took the fries from the side catch basin, where fries are kept after being put into their serving pouches.
He demanded fresh fries.
Manager Sean Rine told the man the fries were fresh.
Rine tried to give Quillen his money back but the man said he was not leaving until he got fresh fries for his wife. That is when employees called Perkins police.
When police arrived at the fast food restaurant, Quillen told them an employee swung a mop at him, hitting him in the arm.
A witness told officers that an employee acted like he was going to hit Quillen, but he never saw the employee actually strike the man.
The person also said he heard the customer call the employee a derogatory name.
Due to conflicting stories, no charges were filed.
Quillen left with his money and no fries, said Perkins police Sgt. Vince Donald.
Donald said the department handles disturbances at restaurants, but they usually occur in the summertime when there is a dispute over an order being wrong or cold.
They also had to respond about a year ago to a local supermarket when a customer slugged a store manager over a price dispute on crab cakes.

Goofus: Not only is the Burger Chef not on Perkins ave any more, but the Giant Tiger burned down , maybe 45 years ago. I think you meant the Red Barn, which is in front of where Giant Tiger once stood. Alas, The Red Barn is still there but the business folded years ago. Burger Chef was down further and then moved to Milan Rd.

I can understand this persons argument these people at these so called fast food dives all have attitude problems and dont care if the food is fresh or even done.I went to the River Ave ,Mcdonalds last week and gave 8 dollars for 2 double quarter ponders with cheese.I got the food home and both burgers were bloody inside instead of driving all the way back to mcdonalds and arguing with these employees i just threw these sandwichs out.I lost 8 dollars and will never eat here again. You cant trust anyone anymore.

Well, Fresh Fries are not something to fight about, but The Person should have been given fresh fries regardless, to disfuse the situation. But I guess thats not how it went down. MD Manager says" Ya'll get what I get Chu, Homie"!!!
"Fresh Fries or Two Black eyes" Please!!!!

I think the guy probably walked in there with an attitude to begin with and I also think that some of the managers shouldn't be managers in the first place. Our favorite employee out there is Stephanie. How come she isn't a manager? She's always friendly and courteous!

Clancy's would never catch on in this thug infested town. The mascot was a cop so many of the people would never realize that they had great fries. Most of the illiterate people would think it was a police station or a doughnut shop.

Mine are usually soggy. If they (mama papa) can fuel those huge SUV's, they could offer better fries if not completely fresh at a $1 plus per serving.

The McDonald's in Erie county all blow.
The franchises are owned by the same McDonald clown, the one that gouges the tourist AND the LOCALS every summer by eliminating the majority of the "Value" menu. Then "pop" it's amazing, it's back in the fall.
Then they have a scam to buy a breakfast meal from 6AM to 10:30 AM and get a newspaper with it.... LOL.. Yeah right.
Just to test it out, 10 trips had to ask each time and I got a paper only once because they were always out by 8 AM.
But yet they want us to support local stores... Sure will... everyone but McDonalds.

I am originally from Bucyrus--there was a Clancy's there. If I remember correctly, it was the very first fast food place in Bucyrus and it came in right around 1972 or 1973. There was one also in Bellevue. Totally loved the Clancy Burger! I actually really liked Burger Chef also!
McDonald's have crap for food anymore. Burger King & Wendy's by far the best!
Oh and Salvatore, you are absolutely right! I really don't blame the guy. If I ever get McDonalds anymore which is very, very rarely, it is only because the fries are generally cold and the bun is hard. And I'm not talking going there at 3:00 PM when the lunch rush is usually over.

"So why didn't they just give the man what he wanted? We escalate this to a police call?" Good comment DG. McDoanld's could have told the man to wait until a fresh hot batch was cooked up. It is possible that this man had some stale fries from a prior visit. What was the big deal about not giving the man what he asked for? This happened Sunday night. Was it almost closing time that McDonald's would not fry up a fresh batch? Personally, I think that Berardi's have the best fries. Second best are the ones that I make at home. The worst are the frozen fries from the store.

The gentleman should have ordered the fries with no salt, they have to make a fresh batch then. I quit going to Mcdonalds when they started charging you for extra sauce or mayo on your sandwich. And I have found the employees and managers at McDonalds to be very rude to the customers. This is true for all of the Sandusky locations. Give me Burger KIng or Wendy's any day!!!

So why didn't they just give the man what he wanted? We escalate this to a police call? Incredulous!
ps. The logic that the customer didn't know what he was talking about is kind of lost on the fact that he knew exactly what he wanted and why.

Out of Sydney Ohio, small chain (I Googled it).
I grew up in Shelby and there was one there. It lasted until McDonalds opened down the road. They had good food.
A friend of mine was the Asst Manager there. She went to open up one morning and a sign on the door said "closed for remodeling". They never did.

His request makes no sense; undoubtedly by the time he got 'em home, by his definition they'd be cold and old anyway.
Something else was goin' on in this guy's head and it had nothin' to do with fries.
Maybe he needs to man-up and tell his wife to get her own @#$% fries next time.
Clancy's: Believe that was a small chain out of Bucyrus. Remember Burger Chef? The worst of everything!

Sorry, but McDonalds has the worse fries around. Ordered some to go the other day and when I got home (about a two minute ride) they were like rubber. I know fresh fries, and these weren't. Why don't we have a "best fries" contest? I bet Wendy's or Burger King would win.
