Bowersox rewarded for taking risk

OAK HARBOR
Crystal Bowersox took a risk Tuesday night — and the judges thought it paid off in a big way.
Stepping out in strappy stilettos and seated behind a piano, she put her own spin on “Midnight Train to Georgia,” the ’70s hit single by Gladys Knight & the Pips.
She wore a crimson dress and lacked her signature guitar. Judge Randy Jackson said he liked the way she switched things up.
Ellen DeGeneres said it showed another side of her, “which means you’re really competing now — you’re in it to win it.”
“I’m so glad you took that risk,” Kara DioGuardi said. “I just can’t wait to see what you do next week.”
Simon Cowell said the vocals were “incredible,” but cautioned against straying too much from her identity as a performer.
“Do not let this process suck the identity out of you,” he said. “I love your personality, because it’s real.”

I was hoping for new teeth but its not supposed to be about how you look rather than your singing ability...Then why do the judges always comment on how somebody looks........? The judges to me seem to be running out of comments over the years....and I will telll you what...it all depends on "we people" the population doing the voting. Unfortunately if a contestent is from a larger town he/she could have a larger following and more votes just because of popularity rather han skill in singing. I am afraid that this may affect Crytals 's chances being that she is from a very small town,Tilliston, Ohio. I have lived my entire life in this area and this is the first time I have ever heard of Tilliston, Ohio....hopefully our population in the U.S. will recognize that Crystal is really the best as Simon says. This is one time I would listen to Simon. If she gets closer to winning you can bet that my entire family will be going to Tilliston, Ohio for the parties.08:29 AM

Show business is exactly that, a business. You have to sell in order to survive. What that Simon dude said to her about remaining true to her own identity was an unexpected comment in my opinion coming from him. She will get better and I believe a lot better but it is a learning curve she must endure. Folks in the music industry call it paying your dues. I would like to catch her live sometime.08:30 AM

When someone has a truly gifted singing voice, where they come from doesn't matter. This competition puts the singers in front of a world-wide audience and we the people make the choice to vote or not. Carrie Underwood came out of 'nowhere' and look where she is now. You go Crystal! Great performance.09:57 AM

Other than a couple years of my almost sixty....I never heard of Tilliston either.....I get what you're saying pepenik.Crystal deserves to win, hands down. No one comes close to her talent, versatility, and NATURAL beauty.
But what's this old hippie know?
Gonna be a he11 of a road trip for a lot of folks in this area......Just might put Tilliston, Ohio on the map. Rayz Cafe looks like a pretty friendly place.
Pretty sure it's Elliston, but I'm gonna google Tilliston, Ohio just for sh!tz and giggles.

I think she's clearly the best contestant, but I think winning this show isn't always what's best for someone. In her case, assuming that she can write good songs, she has already "won" and would be better off to leave the show early, and start working on a "real" record.08:39 AM

Crystal has already put out an album on a small record label. She is indeed an excellent writer. Because of her idol contract you cannot purchase or download her songs but you can check them out on last.fm03:31 PM

Do a google search for Chicago Acoustic Underground podcast episode 194- you can download it for free. Crystal was on and played 5 of her own songs. She is fantastic. Sandusky even gets a brief mention during the show. Now I just need to get an audio editor to clip the songs out of the podcast.
