Locals donate quilts to injured servicemen

SANDUSKY

Ireta Persing's project began as a pile of multi-colored fabric.

She transformed it into a 60-inch-by-72-inch quilt, which will be donated to injured U.S. soldiers.

Persing is a member of the Sandusky Bay Quilt Guild, which has 23 active and seven inactive members from the Sandusky area. The group is making quilts for Quilts of Valor, an organization that collects quilts and takes them to injured servicemen.

Kathy Riedy, a 15-year member of the group, has been working on her quilt for nearly a year. The chain design of her quilt includes red, white and blue blocks of fabric.

The quilting group gets together the first Tuesday of every month at the Commons off Fremont Avenue at 7:00 p.m. to work on its quilts.
