The Huron firefighter who accidentally closed a garage door on the ambulance following his was involved in another minor accident this month involving a Huron ambulance. Fire Lt. Chuck Kaman backed one ambulance into another in the fire station garage Dec. 12, according to a report filed with Huron police.
Police say Kaman was fixing the aluminum folding step on the rear bumper of the ambulance he was driving during the accident when they arrived.
Kaman told police he had "just backed up too far," and struck the front bumper of the other ambulance.
The ambulance Kaman was driving had damage to the rear step, while no problems were found on the other ambulance, according to reports.
In November, Kaman, during a training exercise, drove an ambulance out of the fire garage and pushed the garage door control, which started to close the door causing it to strike another ambulance as it was leaving the garage. The incident resulted in a bent door and broken windows, and damage to running lights on top of the second ambulance, with damage totaling about $2,000. No disciplinary action has been taken against Kaman for either accident. Kaman declined comment.
